Project Details
Client Problem Description
The aim of this website was to create an area for the members of the swimming club to find out about upcoming news and events, register for those events and see the results of past events, it had to be very simple to use.
The site had to include an administration area to handle the complex back end of this site. The site also needed to be able to download registration data (in excel format) ready to be inputted into the pool’s timing system.
The administration area had to be able to setup the events, races and members. Queensland Media Group also needed to incorporate a complete content management system so that the administration staff could post news, update content and images, thus giving the client total control over their website.
Timeline
The project from planning to completion took approximately 3 months. The website was being continually tested in house and changes had to be made on the spot by the team at QMG. We worked closely with the client to make sure that the website would meet their expectations.
Delivery Method
The project had to be delivered online. Members had to register for events and view their results; they also had to be able to do this from anywhere. The best way to deliver this information to them was via the internet, it gives them the flexibility to perform the required functions from anywhere with internet access.
Target Audience
This website needed to be used by 2 opposing target audiences. One being the members aged between 8 and 14, the other being the administration team.
Implemented Solution/Service
There were many challenges to overcome on this project, the first of which was to create a simplified registration system to be used by the members. A foolproof form had to be developed and tested. The second was the many different stages required to setup an event with races that vary and assign them to race seasons. The last was to display the administration area in such a way that the staff could easily change the content and images throughout the main body of the site.
All obstacles were overcome by stringent testing and documentation. Without strict guidelines and good communication the project would have failed before it began. In the end the project proved to be a success for QMG, Coorparoo State School Swimming Club and most importantly the members of the club.
