Windows 7 gets the thumbs up from QMG!

This week the QMG team all had their work machines upgraded to Windows 7 and it’s been a success!

If you are still using an older version of Windows it is definitely worth checking out what the new version has to offer. We were a bit hesitant at first after the last upgrade from Windows XP to Vista, as Vista gave us many headaches with its poor driver support, ridiculously long booting times and poor virtual memory management which resulted in our hard drives working overtime which translated into poor response times from the operating system to the user.

Windows 7 comes with a new version of Internet Explorer which isn't much of a step up from version 7 except the fact that it lets you view web pages in compatibility mode which downgrades
the page render to Internet Explorer 7. This would have been good if they had fixed the rendering bugs in version 8, but they have only introduced more giving web developers more headaches.
So basically compatibility mode lets you go from one set of rendering bugs to another.. great!

In conclusion all the little things that Microsoft has fixed and improved all adds up to a much more stable and responsive feeling that increases productivity. The only issue that unfortunately still stands out is Internet Explorer 8. If they were going to release a new version of Internet Explorer with Windows 7 they could have nipped it in the bud and made it work with the web standards that all other browsers obey by, so while we are all happy to use Windows 7, we will still be using Firefox or Google Chrome.
