Keep track of your projects and showcase your skills for future employers.

Every year we see students applying for a job or work experience as a graphic designer, web developer or multimedia producer and the most common problem they have is that they don't have a online portfolio to show agencies. We will guide you through how to set up your own portfolio and introduce you to some online portfolio sites so you can get started.

DIY - Create Your Own

First up! If you want to be unique and not limited to any design and functionality restrictions, Do It Yourself and set up your own online portfolio. All you need is a domain name and website hosting. And then...

Option 1: You can build your website form sketch with a unique interaction design and look & feel.

Option 2: If you want a quicker solution use a blogging system like Wordpress that can be installed on your hosting. There are free themes for you to use or design your own.

Option 3: Use a Content Management System like our own QMGcms to manage your website. Give us a call or email us and we can tell you about the possibilities.

To give our local design students a kick start QMG is offering a special web hosting package exclusive to Brisbane Design Students. Only $55 for a full year (includes a domain name). If you aren't a design student, check out our prices for domains and hosting here.

Carbonmade - Quick & Easy

www.carbonmade.com

Carbonmade is an easy to use portfolio service. Check out the Carbonmade demo to see how it works without signing up. There are only limited options to change the look of the portfolio, but it's very quick to set up and changes to your projects happen on the spot. The free version "Meh." allows you to set up 5 projects with 35 images. If you want to get really serious, upgrade your account to "Whoo!" (US$12/month) and you get 50 projects with up to 500 hi-res images and 10 high quality videos.

Features:

  • Upload several images per project
  • Upload a Flash file
  • Upload a separate thumbnail image
  • Add a title, client, notes and a URL
  • Assign a project to categories (tags)
  • Choose from several display options
  • Set up your about page
  • Set a project to be hidden or visible
  • Order your images and projects with drag & drop
  • Add a Google Analytics code to your portfolio
  • Edit title, footer copy and background colour (black or white)

QMGverdict:

Carbonmade is very easy to use and good for a overnight-setup. The limitation of 5 projects per free account is not much, so no good as a long-term solution unless you are willing to pay the US$12 every month.
